How to Set Up a Custom Domain for Your Client Portal

ByAdamFeb 27, 2025

If you signed up for the Premium or Ultimate plans, you can set up your Foyer client portal with your own custom domain.

This means you can take any domain name you already own ("example.com" for example), and set up your client portal to be at any subdomain (or even root/apex domain). If you own "example.com", you could set your client portal to be any one of these:

  1. portal.example.com
  2. example.com (known as the apex domain)
  3. clientportal.example.com
  4. etc...

To set up your custom domain, login to your client portal with an administrator account, navigate to "Org", click "Custom Domain", and follow the on screen instructions.

Troubleshooting Tips

  1. Domain Name: Ensure the "Domain name" field is not already in use. For example, say I have a website named "example.com" and on the Foyer custom domain page, I enter example.com, there could be conflicting DNS records. Instead, it is recommended to use a domain entry of portal.example.com, workspace.example.com, etc.
  2. DNS Record Propagation: Foyer can't complete linking your custom domain if it can't see your DNS records. Depending on your domain registrar, it can take 24-48 hours for your DNS records to propagate across the web. If your domain isn't linking to Foyer, try a tool like MxToolBox, select their TXT Lookup from the search dropdown, and look up your domain to see if the records are publicly available yet.
